SASSA SRD Grant Changes 2025 : If you are still depending on the R370 SRD Grant, here comes the news. With effect from June 2025, SASSA has introduced new modes of application and verification. These changes were introduced in the aim of curbing fraudulent practices and speeding up service delivery-they, however, need your cooperation should you wish to continue receiving SRD payments on a monthly basis.
What Has Changed?
- Applications must now be digital: Starting from June, the only way to apply for an SRD grant will be online through the official portal at srd.sassa.gov.za or by means of the upgraded mobile application. No more paper forms at SASSA offices.
- Quarterly re-verification : Instead of applying every month like before, eligible recipients will have to verify their eligibility quarterly, with SASSA affirming that existing applications would run through 2025 still.
- New biometric checks : All first-timers and some re-applicants will undergo fingerprint biometric verification to prevent fraud.
- Extension of timeline : The SRD grant has been extended to March 2026, giving you added assurance and continuity.
What It Means for You
If you are a current recipient and your situation has stayed the same, you need not apply each month; the grant just rolls over for the following months. Otherwise, if this happens to be your first application or one where you missed some updates online:
- Submit an online application with the SASSA portal.
- Biometric confirmation against your ID is needed by new applicants.
- Await your first R370 transfer; your application and verification will need to be approved with no prior month’s back-pay issued.
July 2025 Payment Dates
Pay Attention: According to SASSA, SRD payments for July will be made between 22 and 27 July 2025. To ensure smooth payment:
- Ensure all your bank/mobile wallet details are correct in the portal.
- Apply early, preferably by mid-July, to avoid any delays.
Why These Changes Matter
- For fraud prevention: With grants, so to speak, there will be biometric identification, verification of quarterly income via banks, and SARS records to ensure that only those eligible obtain a grant.
- Faster processing: With digital-only applications, approval time is sped up with lesser queues in offices.
- Give long-term assurance : Ensuring the grant till March 2026 provides recipients with some planning assurance in an economic crisis.

Eligibility to receive and retaining your R370 grant:
- Apply or confirm your details on srd.sassa.gov.za or through the app.
- Biometric verification for you if you are a first-time user.
- Verify your profile for correct bank/wallet information.
- Check your status on the portal, through WhatsApp, or by calling the toll-free SASSA number.
- Apply before 20 July to guarantee inclusion in the July payout/date window.
