SASSA Pension July 2025 Updates : For millions of the elderly in South Africa, keeping the South African Social Security Agency’s (SASSA) pension was very important for intermediate financial security. Now that the payment calendar for the year 2025 has been launched, with updated application procedures in place, it’s a good time to ensure that you are on the ball.
What To Expect Payment Dates
SASSA continues in its rhythm, paying out in three tranches each month. For the month of July 2025, SASSA has confirmed the following dates:
- Older Persons Grant : 2 July.
- Disability Grant : 3 July.
- All Other Grants (including Child Support, Foster Care, SRD): 4 July.
The payments will be a little late for August: Older Persons Grant 5 August, Disability Grant 6 August, and all other grants 7 August. Once the funds are deposited into beneficiaries’ accounts, SASSA advises recipients not to rush to withdraw the funds as they remain there until used in their bank or SASSA card account.
Updated Grant Amounts
With the March 2025 budget increase, pension amounts have been raised to:
- Old Age Grant (60–74 yrs) : R2,315.
- Old Age Grant (75+ yrs) : R2,335.
- Disability & Care Dependency Grants : R2,315 each.
- Child Support Grant : R560.
- Foster Care Grant : R1,250.
- SRD Grant : R370.
These changes go into effect as SASSA seeks to at least mitigate inflationary trends, thereby providing increased support to vulnerable households.
How To Apply Or Update Your Application
If this is your first time applying to SASSA or you want to update your SASSA pension details for any reason, then here is what you need to do:
- Check eligibility : Must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee and must be 60 years or older. The applicant may not receive another grant. Also, income thresholds would apply: for persons living alone, monthly income of below R8,070; and for assets, less than R1,227,600.
- Documents: Carry the identification document with the 13-digit number, proof of residence, bank statements, proof of income/assets, UIF documentation if applicable, and marital or death certificates if applicable.
- Go to the nearest SASSA office, complete the application form, and submit it to the officer. You will immediately get a receipt that serves as proof of submission.
- Await processing: Applications usually take three months to be processed with the grant amounts backdated to the date of approval of the application.
- Life certificates and reviews: Beneficiaries must complete their life certificates on an annual basis. SASSA can also, at any time, review eligibility due to a change in income or assets.
Tips For A Smooth Process
- The banking and personal details remain updated to avoid any delay.
- Answer any review notices from SASSA before the date indicated; else payments will lapse.
- Do not be scammed – SASSA officials will never ask for your PIN or request any fees. If you have a genuine enquiry, call 0800 60 10 11 or visit an official SASSA office.
- If one cannot apply in person, they can appoint a trusted person with a letter or power of attorney to act on their behalf.
