The CRA advertises getting the full CWB amount of $5,712 in calendar year 2025 for low- and moderate-income workers. This refundable tax credit is to encourage persons to either stay working or enter the workforce, while their earnings are supplemented.
What Is the Canada Workers Benefit (CWB)?
The Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) supports working Canadians with low income by a form of income support at the federal level. There are two major components:
- Basic Amount: Given to all barring ineligible workers.
- Disability Supplement: Payment to eligible workers on the basis of certified disability.
The maximum combined amount of benefits is $5,712 for 2025, including the disability supplement. Deportation benefits range up to $2,616 for such workers based on income and marital status, and $3,912 for those of family status.
Who Is Eligible For the CWB In 2025?
To have the right to claim the CWB pursuant to the Act, the claimant must satisfy the following:
- Must have been qualified as a resident of Canada for the full year.
- Any individual who has attained the age of 15 by December 31, 2025.
- Should have earned working income for example, working for somebody or being self-employed.
- The claimant or family unit must have net income below a defined threshold which varies with individual or family status.
One is not eligible if:
- One is deemed to be a full-time student for more than 13 weeks in the year with the exception of having a dependent.
- One has been incarcerated for more than 90 days in the year.
- One did not file an income tax return.
When and How Does One Receive Payment?
In 2025, the CWB may be obtained by either way:
- Lump sum payment on filing tax; or
- Quarterly advance payments deposited by the CRA through the year.
These advance payments have to be applied for online through the CRA’s site called the Canada Workers Benefit Advance Payments Application or by filing out a paper form.
Why It Matters
CWB is an important income source for many Canadian families with the rising cost of living. Consequently, the 2025 enhanced payments will mostly provide a greater relief than ever before, especially for families and persons with disabilities.
